Research and Professional Presentations- An FCCLA STAR Event

This project can help prepare students to compete in the FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) National STAR Event called Professional Presentation.  However, it can also be used for any teacher who wishes to have students develop a research project.

For this project, students will focus their presentation on a problem or trend in education that needs addressing. Students research an educational issue, create a presentation outline, prepare a visual aid, and professionally deliver their presentation to an audience of stakeholders. Each of the 4 lessons in this unit assist in the development of the skills needed to be successful in this STAR event.

Topics of lessons included in this project are as follows:

  • Lesson 1- Choosing a research topic and writing research questions
  • Lesson 2- Finding reliable sources for research
  • Lesson 3- Sorting and organizing research data
  • Lesson 4- Creating and delivering an effective presentation

Note: This project could be utilized in other industry sectors, though the topic of the presentation must relate to Family and Consumer Sciences to be eligible for the STAR Event.
