The Body As A Crime Scene STEM Integrated Project
In any assault, whether it's a punch in the nose or a murder, the BODY is a crime scene in its own right. It contains physical evidence that can be examined in place, documented, collected and then subjected to further detailed analysis in the crime laboratory. When done in a careful, methodical manner an unbiased story of what happened can be discerned.
This unit provides an academic and hands-on introduction to many aspects of applied Forensic Sciences. It is most appropriate for early in the school year as it provides a foundation for later, detailed instruction in the various disciplines that make up forensic science.
In addition to the CTE/STEM focus of the unit/project lessons, educators will find academic lessons in Science and Math that supplement the primary core area of study.
Note to the Teacher: Some of these lessons may be disturbing for young students and are therefore intended for grades 11-12 students who are actively pursuing coursework and a career in law enforcement or crime scene science / forensics.
