Recognizing The Vast Variety Of Law Enforcement Agencies to Choose From

This project will provide the student with an overview of law enforcement agencies in the United States. Each student has their own interests and motivations for seeking a career in law enforcement or a related field. This project recognizes that the more information that students have about the various types of law enforcement, the greater likelihood that they will join an agency that encompasses their interests.

The project will explain the purpose of each type of agency as well as how the agencies work together to meet the law enforcement needs of society.

  • Lesson 1 defines law enforcement agencies and shows students resources to explore to find unique agencies within California.
  • Lesson 2 looks at military law enforcement agencies.
  • Lesson 3 explores law enforcement agencies that are non-traditional such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Police.
  • Finally, lesson 4 explores how these various agencies must form working relationships in order to meet society's needs. The primary example used is 9/11.

Access to the internet is the only resource needed by the students. The skills that they develop will be the ability to search for rewarding careers.
