It's Lit(erature) - Introduction to E-Textiles STEM Integrated Project
Combining foreign language literature with practical graphic design skills, this integrated STEM project merges the world language of French and CTE Graphic Design by constructing electronic fabric projects, also known as e-textiles.
Based upon their interpretation of original fairy tales (and not the Disney versions!), students in CTE graphic design will work in Adobe Illustrator to make a digital bookmark pattern, similar to a clothing pattern. The pattern will be used to engineer an e-textile bookmark using simple circuits. Students will plan a design and sew a completed circuit using LED lights, coin cell batteries, and conductive thread. Students will be involved in a unique engineering design experience that can be kept as a tangible reminder of their story. Combining sewing and pattern making with electronics, this project will expose girls and boys to basic engineering and sewing.
Students in World Language will create an illustrated digital fairytale and produce an illustrated digital storybook with the option to print. This option to print can also be used as a fundraiser for the classroom. This project exposes students to the target language, reinforces learning the past tense while increasing their cultural literacy awareness.
