Cookie Chemistry! PBL Project

In this project students will learn the fundamentals of creating a cookie. The students will begin with the history of the chocolate chip cookie, to the function of the ingredients, to the use of tools and techniques, to the culmination of a cookie exchange. Lesson 1 - This introductory lesson will teach students the history of the chocolate chip cookie. How to achieve basic textures of cookies; the general types of cookies; basic ingredients which go into cookie making. Lesson 2 - Students will become acquainted with the tools and techniques of baking cookies. Lesson 3 - Function of ingredients in a chocolate chip cookie. How changing the ratios of ingredients changes the outcome of the cookie. The taste/flavor, texture, smell/aroma, and appearance of a cookie will be identified. Lesson 4 - Students will put into practice the information about types of cookies, use of tool and techniques, and function of ingredients.
