An Homage to the Silent Film
The history of cinema is the story of the development of one of the most powerful art forms in human history. In a relatively short period of time, it grew from a curiosity into a powerful form of entertainment and communication. In this project, students will learn about the development of the early visual language of film. It will culminate in them crafting a short silent film to exhibit to the class or the public.
Throughout the course of this project, students will learn how to craft the pre-production, shoot and edit their silent film.
Lesson #1: Students will research a silent film pioneer and answer a list of questions to prepare for their project.
Lesson #2: Students will craft a pitch, present it to the class and outline for their silent film.
Lesson #3: Students will craft a silent film script, storyboard and shot list to prepare for filming.
Lesson #4: Students will shoot and edit their silent films and screen them to the class for feedback.
This project is brought to you by Jonathan Furtado (CTE) with support from the CTE Online curriculum leadership team and detailed coordination provided by the Course Team Lead Josh Bradley.
