This project will teach students how to design and fabricate a steel lock box. Students will learn the design features that a lock box should have, create a materials list for it and then fabricate the lock box. Students will also explore the need for a lock box in today's changing world. Welding and Fabrication concepts that are taught are measurement, materials selection, steel shapes ID and fabrication and layout tools/concepts. As this is an integrated project, math lessons include such concepts as fabrication costs and sales calculations. English lessons include concepts in logic, the art of persuasion, marketing and sales of the finished lock box.
This unit is brought to you by Matt Joiner (CTE), Stefanie Volk (English) and Greg Ford (Mathematics) with support from the CTE Online curriculum leadership team and detailed coordination provided by the Course Team Lead Gregg Witkin.
