Eat, Kern Love - Restaurant Design Project

EAT, KERN, LOVE . . . RESTAURANT DESIGN

Imagine eating dinner at a table with friends suspended high in the air over Tokyo! That is the experience of Dinner in the Sky. Students will create the Concept for an ethnic or specialty restaurant. Students will explore and apply the Naming and trademarking processes to select the right name for their restaurant. Next, students will visually define their new restaurant experience by conducting research and designing an Inspiration Board and Brand Style Guide. Students will design a Logo for their restaurant. The Logo and Brand Style Guide will then be used to apply the new restaurant brand to the design of a Business Card. From there, students will research effective menu design techniques and build a paper prototype of their Restaurant’s Menu. Following instruction in exemplary page layout, the use of grids, master pages and style guides, students will design their menus in Adobe InDesign. Finally, applying the principles of good UX Design, students will apply all of these assets in a 3-screen Phone App for their restaurant.
