How to Stir-Fry PBL Project

One of life's daily challenges is opening up your refrigerator and having to create a healthful meal from the ingredients we find. Stir-frying is a cooking technique that was born in China, as a result of a fuel shortage. In this project, students will learn how to use leftover vegetables and protein to create a quick meal by stir-frying them. Lesson 1 has students demonstrating how to care for basic stir-fry equipment, including a wok, and practicing using chopsticks. In lesson 2, students take these new skills and practice the art of stir-frying by creating a beef chow mein recipe that is demonstrated by the instructor. Lesson 3 has students writing a stir-fry recipe of their own, following the basic 5 components that make up every stir-fry dish. Lesson 4 culminates in students creating a stir-fry dish from a variety of ingredients and being judged on taste, texture and appearance. This project is brought to you by Nicole Pugel-Gamez with support from the CTE Online curriculum leadership team and detailed coordination provided by the Course Team Lead Laura Gallardo.
