Planning a Benefit Concert STEM Integrated Project

How can students explore a current social issue by planning a benefit concert? In the STEM Integrated Project Planning a Benefit Concert, students will explore local or global issues important to them while learning the relevant Computer Programming and English Language Arts skills and concepts in order to "plan" a concert. Computer Programming Lessons: Students are introduced to the history of computer programming, learn about basic Python syntax, explore the Arithmetic Operators and their functions in the Python programming language, become familiar with the concept of programming in the music industry and finally determine a budget program for their benefit concert. ELA Lessons: Students identify the concept of an awareness event, discover rhetorical strategies inherent in speech and print, examine the merits of a benefit concert while reading a high level informational text and developing summary skills and finally research three aspects of a benefit concert and write a proposal describing their plan. This unit is brought to you by Cheyanne Taylor-Pacheco (CTE) and Doug Carroll (ELA) with support from the CTE Online curriculum leadership team and detailed coordination provided by the Course Team Lead Trish Valceschini.
