Suture Methods

This series of four lessons will focus on the aspect of suturing in a veterinary clinic. Students will identify similarities and differences of suture material and needles used in veterinary science. Students will  also learn how to create a suture knot as well as the simple interrupted suture technique. Then, students will explore new suturing techniques in this lesson; including the vertical mattress suture, horizontal mattress suture, figure-of-8 suture and simple running suture. From their understandings of these techniques students will model a new technique on a banana/orange.  Students will then identify signs and prevention of a suture infection in this lesson.  For the final project in this series of lessons students will suture a banana/orange or pool noodle.
