How to Make Money with your Videos on YouTube PBL Project
Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day, with over 30 million visitors. With that amount of people watching, students have a chance of making money with their own YouTube channel. This series of four project based learning lessons will be exploring not only the history of YouTube, but also process of creating, marketing, and distributing students' own YouTube channel. They will also learn how to make money using their own videos. Students should have access to videos they want to upload to a channel.
Lesson #1: Students will learn about the history of YouTube, how to adequately use it, and then create their own YouTube channel.
Lesson #2: Now that students have their own channel, students will now learn marketing and promotional techniques to to add more subscribers and get more views to promote and market the videos they made. In this lesson, students will define their audience, create a template for their marketing strategy, and start to understand how to "pitch" their videos to other YouTubers.
Lesson #3: With the proliferation of digital devices and apps capable of changing copyrighted material, students will need to know the extent to which they need to protect their videos, which is their property since it is their own creative work. These videos are not only sharable to the public, but easily downloaded without the student's knowledge or permission. In this lesson, students will learn about the importance of copyright, what it is, and how it can or cannot protect their work on YouTube.
Lesson #4: Entrepreneurial skills are honed as students start to grow their YouTube business. Students will perform a series of practical activities to launch their YouTube Channel and start the process of distributing their work. Students practice being business professionals as they market their channel and approach potential colleagues.
