Creating a Community Garden PBL Project

Health is greatly impacted by diet and resources. A citizen with a poor diet and lack of resources will be susceptible to poor health. Citizens need healthy food and readily available resources to improve their health. A community garden creates a space for people to come together and improve not only their health but also their neighborhood. In this 4-lesson PBL project, students will learn about health of citizens, what resources are needed for good health, what goes into to creating a community garden, and the responsibilities for maintaining a garden in their neighborhood. Below are the general objectives of each lesson: Lesson 1: It will analyze the health of citizens and reflect on the impact a poor diet and lack of resources have on health. Lesson 2: It will discuss the options and needs for community resources. Lesson 3: It will explore the options and difficulties that go into creating a community garden. Lesson 4: It will provide students an opportunity to show what they have learned about citizens health, resources, and community gardens by creating a blueprint for a garden in their neighborhood. This project is brought to you by Gina Guerrero with support from the CTE Online curriculum leadership team and detailed coordination provided by the Course Team Lead Laura Gallardo.
