Creating a Community Garden PBL Project
Health is greatly impacted by diet and resources. A citizen with a poor diet and lack of resources will be susceptible to poor health. Citizens need healthy food and readily available resources to improve their health. A community garden creates a space for people to come together and improve not only their health but also their neighborhood.
In this 4-lesson PBL project, students will learn about health of citizens, what resources are needed for good health, what goes into to creating a community garden, and the responsibilities for maintaining a garden in their neighborhood.
Below are the general objectives of each lesson:
Lesson 1: It will analyze the health of citizens and reflect on the impact a poor diet and lack of resources have on health.
Lesson 2: It will discuss the options and needs for community resources.
Lesson 3: It will explore the options and difficulties that go into creating a community garden.
Lesson 4: It will provide students an opportunity to show what they have learned about citizens health, resources, and community gardens by creating a blueprint for a garden in their neighborhood.
