Licensing and Regulation of a Quality Childcare Center PBL Project

The core mission of the Child Care Licensing Program is to ensure the health and safety of children in care. The Child Care Licensing Program strives to provide preventive, protective, and quality services to children in care by ensuring that licensed facilities meet established health and safety standards through monitoring facilities, providing technical assistance, and establishing partnerships with providers, parents, and the child care community. Through this project, students will learn about Community Care Licensing, Title 22 Regulations, Children's rights, and the licensing process. They will then be responsible to design a childcare center, both indoors and outdoors! Lesson 1 - This lesson will help students to become familiar with Community Care Licensing, and specifically, Title 22 Regulations. Through observation they will be able to identify deficiencies. Lesson 2 - In this lesson, students will learn how to select quality licensed Child Care Centers and Family Home Care. Lesson 3 - Students will learn how children's rights are protected at license childcare centers. They will learn the importance and commitment to children’s personal rights in promoting the emotional and physical well-being of the children in childcare centers. They will understand the role of the adults working in childcare, whether staff members or volunteers, must protect these rights according to state laws and regulations. Lesson 4 - Students will become familiar with the licensing process and be able to tell the difference between a quality program and a non-quality program. Each student will be responsible to design a childcare center, both indoors and outdoors.
